The wild strike, which threatens to stop commuter trains, is scheduled to start at 03:00 on Monday night and is expected to last for the next three days. The strike committee’s demand is to bring back the train stewards, who were partially abolished on March 1 following a decision by the traffic committee just over two years ago.

After the information about the wild strike, MTR’s CEO Joakim Sundh is said to have contacted train drivers who are scheduled during the planned strike. Niklas Ekström, communications manager at MTR, confirms that an email from the company’s CEO has gone out. In the email, the employees are warned that they risk damages if they go on wild strike and in some cases also dismissal if there is a reason for refusing to work, TT reports.

According to the site organizing the strike, it will be called off if the demands to bring back the train attendants are met.

TT: What do you want to say to those who work to go on a wild strike?

– We assume that all our employees honor current agreements. We of course together with them want to ensure that all commuter train travelers can get around in the region and that we are involved and contribute to fulfilling this important mission, says Niklas Ekström.

At the same time, the representatives of the Sekos trade union for the shuttle drivers distance themselves from the initiative.

– It is a duty of peace and you choose to carry out an illegal strike instead of waiting for a legal strike, says vice-president Melissa Svenhard.

THE LATEST JOURNEYS IN THE COMMUTER TRAFFIC

On April 14, 150 train drivers on the Stockholm commuter train will have decided to go on wild strike starting Monday April 17 at 03:00.

The strike is planned to last for three days through Wednesday, April 19 at 11:59 p.m.

The train drivers’ demand is to get the train attendants back on the commuter trains, if they get the demand through, the strike will be called off.

In 2021, a decision was made that train hosts within the commuter train traffic will be phased out. Instead, train drivers must independently drive and monitor the trains using monitor and camera technology.

The dismantling of the train hosts has continued after being paused earlier this year. In September, all 350 train attendants will be phased out.
