There are certainly enthusiast cars for all budgets!

We list five models that are expected to increase in value in the coming years. Why not a Saab 9000?

– If you find a nice example for a reasonable price, the value is estimated to double within two or three years, says Michael Luft at Bilweb auctions.

If you’re looking for a hobby car, you don’t have to look all the way back to the cars of the 60s and 70s. They are often very expensive or in need of a lot of hands-on work.

Instead, the so-called modern classics are becoming increasingly popular, cars that are around 20 years old. Then they have often bottomed out in price and can only go in one direction. Up.

– When the model approaches 30 years of age, we see that some cars increase in value to double, and sometimes even more, says Michael Luft, appraiser at Bilweb auctions.

After 30 years, the vehicle tax disappears and you can take out enthusiasm insurance, which is usually cheaper than a regular one.

Popular classics are those that are easy to repair and trouble free. The will to buy is stronger with an old Volkswagen Golf than a Rolls-Royce.

– Price increases around the 30-year mark may become even more evident in the coming years, as many 30-year-olds are still perceived as modern and good cars, especially as they are not so packed with electronics, says Michael Luft.

(1991-1996)

Price today: From SEK 10,000, SEK 50,000 for a nice copy

Most famous is the yellow sports model 850 T-5R which was manufactured between 1994-1996. Popularly called T-Yellow, but also available in black and olive green. It has already dropped in price, but the other 850 can be found at a better price.

– All five-cylinder models, and especially those with a turbo, have started to climb upwards in the last year. The top model “T-yellow” is traded today for 300-400,000 kroner for fine specimens.

(1984-1998)

Price today: around SEK 40,000 for a nice copy

Saab 9000 models from the early 90s are starting to get a lot of demand, but also the larger 9000 model – especially the ones after 92 when the model got a new front.

– If you find a nice copy for a reasonable price, the value is estimated to double within two or three years. Much thanks to Saab’s sporty image and high international demand.

Award: 10,000-20,000 kroner

Little old-fashioned Twingo is still sold on the continent, but here in Sweden it is conspicuous by its absence, unless you buy old, that is. Buy the first generation that was launched in 1993. Found few on the used sites, but never cost more than 20,000 kroner.

– Today it is a cult car that has started to climb upwards, especially those with a large fabric sunroof.

Mercedes W124 – E-Class before E-Class

(1984-1996)

Price today: Low-mileage well over SEK 100,000, otherwise SEK 80,000 for a nice example.

It’s easy to get lost among Merca’s earlier model codes, but 124 is the forerunner of what is now called the E-Class. The sedan was called W124, combi S124.

– Fine specimens have already shot up in price abroad, but in Sweden there are many fine ones left, thanks to large imports in the late 1980s. Considered by many as the last real quality Mercedes.

Volkswagen T4 – Cult on a roll

(1992-2002)

Price today: from SEK 25,000

If you want to live like a hippie, time may be over. The Volkswagen T1, the brand’s first bus, has become synonymous with flower power. It has also made them insanely expensive! A Samba version with an extra skylight can cost well over a million kroner.

Maybe then it is better to focus on the 90s bus? Look for a nice copy now. The handy person builds the camper van from it, or “plate ice” as they said before.

– It has already become a collector’s car. A durable and practical hobby car, with a large international community. Slowly starting to get the same cult status as the old VW buses.
