Klarna shuts down several scam sites – after criticism from the authority

--

A wave of e-commerce scam sites has emerged in recent years. The reports of the sites that either cheat customers on their products, or that sell defective goods through dropshipping from China, have increased sharply at the general complaint board, ARN. This, in turn, has created problems for Klarna, which in several cases is used as a payment solution on the sites. Something that we at Breakit reported on on Wednesday.

Today, the Swedish Consumer Agency chose to list ten e-commerce sites that they considered to have serious flaws. Dagens Industri reports that six of those stores used Klarna.

Now the same newspaper announces that Klarna has shut down the sites in question.

“The fact that Klarna is available on a majority of the sites that are publicly flagged as fraudulent by the Swedish Consumer Agency feels, frankly, damnable. We are handling this as an incident with the highest priority,” writes Klarna’s press contact Joel Heathen to DI in an email that continues:

“All sites listed have already been shut down. Hopefully our competitors will follow suit and do the same.”

It is also known from before that the Swedish Consumer Agency is considering legal action against Klarna because they believed that the payment giant misled customers about their rights.
