When Prince Harry started dating Meghan, then a famous actor in Hollywood, they were one of the world’s most talked about couples.
But the late Prince Philip must have been “on his guard”.
He had concerns about the actor, seeing parallels between Meghan and Wallis Simpson, another American divorcee who married into the British royal family with King Edward VIII in 1937.
Prince Philip is also said to have issued a warning to Queen Elizabeth at the time.
This is stated by royal expert and author Ingrid Seward in her book “My Mother and I”, according to the Mirror.
“Queen Elizabeth II was well aware of what Philip meant when he drew parallels between Meghan and Wallis. In fact, much later she commented in her curt way that perhaps Harry had been ‘too in love’ with the American actor”, writes Ingrid Seward in her book.
“Couldn’t ignore the similarities”
In an interview with GB News, Ingrid Seward has developed her reasoning.
– I think Prince Philip was very clear-sighted when it came to people and he always tried to see the good in them. But I think he just couldn’t ignore the similarities between Meghan and Harry and Edward and Mrs Simpson.”
Edward VIII created a constitutional crisis when he wanted to marry the American Wallis Simpson in 1937. Leaders within the British Commonwealth saw it as unthinkable that the British monarch would marry a divorced woman whose two ex-husbands were still alive.
