48 years have passed since Silvia Sommerlath said “yes” to our king and became queen – since then she has worked tirelessly to represent our country.

Something she does with incredible elegance, warmth and reliability. Silvia is an invaluable right hand to our king, in all situations.

Yes, even when her own eye is red and bloodshot, as on the first day of the Finnish state visit, she stands straight. Something that is completely in line with Silvia’s ambitious nature.

Many people jumped when the pictures from the castle of the queen came. Silvia was as usual stylish and composed, but one of her eyes was red.

Soon Svensk Damtidning got an explanation. The court’s information manager Margareta Thorgren explained:

– The Queen has been exposed to frostbite in the eye. Otherwise, the queen is doing well.

But it certainly looks somewhat uncomfortable and irritated, and unfortunately the condition persisted during the big gala dinner in the evening.

But throwing in the towel and dodging the rattling camera flashes was not an option for our dutiful queen.

She carried out the entire state visit completely according to plan, including all program items during the second day of the state visit, when you could see that Silvia was still having trouble with her eye.

Something that does not surprise us when it comes to the queen. During her almost 50 years in the royal family, she has shown time and time again that she is a force to be reckoned with, and then some.

This is not the first time Queen Silvia has appeared at work despite the circumstances not being the best.

When Svensk Damtidning spoke to the court, we learned that Silvia did not plan to slow down more than necessary:

– The Queen works and has team meetings and so on. She has a cast on her wrist but she works. However, some more extensive programs that primarily involve some planning work have had to be pushed further forward.

Something similar happened six years earlier, when the Queen suffered a shoulder fracture after an unfortunate fall with her skis during an alpine holiday in Switzerland.

Silvia had hurt herself there more than first thought and needed surgery. At the same time, returning to work seems to have been in the Queen’s focus. The court initially put it as the Queen would only rest “for a few days” when she spoke to Aftonbladet, before the condition of the injury was more known.

Yes, it is quite simply our queen. Dutiful, reliable and dedicated. Even when she goes through something that makes her job a little harder.
