Lost at Unga Operan with Tarrodi’s music

Andrea Tarrodi belongs to the most productive Swedish composers of our time. She often has flow and recently she has composed several operas, all of which deal with today’s most current issues and with a theme that touches the deeply human. As Sylvia (on mental illness) with Piteå Chamber Opera and The long century with Firebird Opera.

Now she and the librettist have Magnus Florin created a dreamy travel drama – Astray – which brings to mind as well Alice in Wonderland like Studio Ghibli’s anime classic Spirited Away. An opera for children, from 6 years and up.

In short: Klara is lost. She has lost her name and she cannot find her home. In her search, she encounters strange figures; the egg that won’t hatch, the wind that wants to be a stone, the tree that wants to be water. Through curiosity and initiative, she eventually finds her way back – to something new and to herself.

Like in a dream

A string quartet with harp and percussion creates beautiful and playful sounds. Just like in a dream, we are thrown straight into the action. For director answers Ellen Lambacting opera director and artistic director of Young Opera.

Premiere on The RotundaRoyal Opera House in Stockholm, April 26, 2024. Performances are then given until June 1.

The opera ensemble consists of musicians from The court chapel and the singers Tessan-Maria Lehmussaari, Karolina Lightning, Ulrika Skarby, Erik Rosenius, Joa Helgesson and Jonas Degerfeldt.
