The spring warmth shines with its absence and in the Stockholm region the snow falls on Friday morning. The warmest with 8.4 degrees is in Falsterbo and the coldest is in Tarfala with -7.6 degrees.

– It is perhaps a little cold and a little snowy… but otherwise it will get better, there is a lightening, says SVT meteorologist Nils Holmqvist, who is in Stockholm and laughs.

– It was fun yesterday because then it was a colleague who told me that “it can’t get worse than this”, and then it hadn’t started snowing yet, so yes, it will get worse tomorrow.

You must be getting extremely many questions right now about the weather?

– Yes, or there are many colleagues who complain. Not friends and family but colleagues are obviously disappointed. That’s how I notice it and that I myself think it feels a little sad not being able to be out.

Nils Holmqvist is on paternity leave of 30 percent and the youngest daughter, who is one year old, “isn’t really compatible with this weather”. The oldest son is four years old.

– There will be indoor activities and then we’ll wait this out, we’ll try to plan something to do later this weekend when the weather gets a little better.

Because it will be warmer, according to Nils Holmqvist.

– But it looks like a small low pressure will come in during the day which is quite strong in the form of a shower area that will come in over Skåne, there may be thunder. Then it will pass towards the northeast and maybe here and there there can be snow even on Saturday, says the SVT meteorologist, referring to the Stockholm area.

– Then it will get better, early on Saturday and then heat will come in, it will be milder this weekend. And then at the beginning of next week it can be warm and nice.

Nils Holmqvist talked about the weather on Thursday in SVT.

Not so unusual weather

But sun is no guarantee, according to the SVT meteorologist.

If you look ahead to Monday, Tuesday and the first of May, the warmest air is to the south.

– Then warm fronts can form which means that instead of 20 degrees and sun, it can be rain and closer to 10 degrees. What is certain next week is that it will be warmer anyway, it won’t be like now, with snow.

– It is still a big improvement.

In Norrland, however, there is snow on Valborg.

– It is southern Sweden that gets the nicer weather, but even there it can get quite cold in the evening. As usual, you have to stand with your feet halfway into the fire, says Nils Holmqvist and laughs.

Is it unusually cold for April?

– I would say yes and no, it’s not like we’ve broken any records. I would say it is an unusually cold period because it is so persistent.

The SVT meteorologist says that the record cold has been minus 36 degrees at the beginning of April.

How do you feel about delivering weather that viewers might be disappointed with?

– I think it’s fun… because it’s fun when something happens. The most boring thing is when it’s sunny and 20 degrees five days in a row, because then we have nothing to tell, says Nils Holmqvist and continues:

– It’s not so fun. So now it is quite optimal that something happens and you can end on a good note. That you can tell that the heat is coming.

Nils Holmqvist urges everyone to keep their hopes up – the spring heat is on its way.

– It can’t get much worse than now. But yesterday it could, obviously, he says, laughing.
