Camera surveillance is one of many tools that the police use to prevent crime during the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.
– Through the cameras, we can quickly get a picture of the situation and interrupt criminal acts. What the cameras record is also of great use to us when we have to investigate and hold people accountable for crimes that have been committed, says Jimmy Lindin, head of the camera section in the police region South.
The extended camera surveillance takes place in areas where the events are concentrated, Malmö Live, Malmö Arena and Folkets Park.
– The cameras give us in real time a very good picture of what is happening in the Eurovision areas. It is about getting a situational picture of strategically important locations, knowing how much resources we should send to a location if something happens and being able to quickly intervene if someone commits a crime.
The reinforcement consists of cameras temporarily mounted on certain facades and police drones with built-in cameras. In addition, mobile camera trailers are parked in places where the police want to supplement the fixed surveillance.
