Jireel on the desire for children and the relationship status: “Single but busy”

But the relationship status is all the more unclear for album-current Jireel.

– I would say that I am single, but busy, says the artist and smiles widely.

The rain mixed with snow pours down in central Stockholm, people walk around in winter jackets even though it is almost May and the artist Jireel Lavia Pereira24, better known as just Jireel, is happier than ever to have moved to warm Mallorca.

– This is what I have been trying to escape from. But what to do, it’s good with a little contrast. I get to enjoy this until I go home, says the artist, looking out at the gray sky and laughing.

It started with a week’s vacation to the Spanish island, where Jireel went with his team.

– That week we said “shouldn’t we just move there”. Two weeks later we moved.

You and the whole team?

– Yes, there are about ten of us who live in Palma. So it’s really nice and also to have people there that you know. Everyone just took their families and children there. It was a quick decision but it’s probably the best thing I’ve done. You just feel good. It’s like living a dream every day.

Releasing new album

He goes back to Sweden a few times a year, to see his family and for work. This time it is because he is releasing his sixth album, “Luanda”.

– I have been working on it for seven or eight months. Just focused on making a lot of songs for the album. I’m very excited for it to come out now and to see what the response will be.

The album is named after the capital of Angola, where Jireel was born and where he took a lot of inspiration from for the sound. He was around two or three years old when he and his family moved from there to the Stockholm suburb of Rågsved, where he grew up with his nine siblings.

What does family mean to you?

– Everything. That’s how I was brought up: That you take care of each other and take care of family. I also want to create my own family that way. I think that is probably the most important thing in life. Then everything else comes after that.

The change: This is what love life looks like now

In an interview with Aftonbladet in December, Jireel said he was single. Today it looks a little different.

How about the relationship status today?

– It’s a little better. I’m dating a girl. Then we’ll see, he says and smiles widely.

How long have you been dating?

– It has been a bit back and forth for almost a year.

Would you call yourself single or not?

– I would say in between. I would say I am single, but busy.

What does it mean?

– It means that I am single, but I am not for everyone.

It sounds hard to define. Is it something you want to lead to you being able to answer “busy” to the question?

– Yes, definitely. It is leaning more and more towards it.

Does the girl also live in Spain?

– No, in Sweden.

The dream in the future: “I have some children”

You are 24 years old and have already released six albums now and started your own record label. Where will you be when you are 34, if you are allowed to dream freely?

– I have some children. I hope I haven’t moved back. Because I want my children to grow up where it is warm and comfortable and safe. I have hopefully continued to build my record label. I have continued to make music, although more music for others. Because I feel that when I’m 35, then I want to be done with what I want to experience, career-wise and success-wise. I want to have done it by the time I’m 35, so I can have time for children, family and everything else around.

When you think children, how many children do you think of?

– It’s not my question, it depends on how many children the person I’m with wants to have. If she wants six children, she wants six children. If she wants three children, then three children!

But it feels clear that you see children in your future.

– Definitely, definitely.
