Iranian singer Shervin Hajipour wrote the protest song “For…” after the death of Mahsa Amini.

The song has become important during the protests and has been played more than 34 million times.

Now Hajipour has been arrested by Iranian police.

Shervin Hajipour is an Iranian singer and the creator behind the viral protest song “For…” which has become central to the protests in Iran after the death of Mahsa Amini. In less than two days, the music video for the song has received more than 34 million views on Hajipour’s Instagram.

Just an hour before the artist was arrested, the video was deleted from his page. This after the Iranian IT police contacted him and forced him to delete the post, according to Iranwire. Relatives of Hajipour say that he was called for a short interview with the police, but that he was arrested instead.

Hajipour has previously said that the song is based on people’s social media posts about the ongoing protests resulting from the death of Mahsa Amini and the ongoing social and political developments in Iran. In posts on social media, he writes that “the lyrics of this song were written by you, to ease your pain”.

In the song, Hajipour sings “for girls who wish they were boys. For women, life and liberty. For freedom.”

Protest song in honor of Mahsa Amini

The large and violent protests in the country erupted after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was killed earlier in September by Iranian morality police for wearing her veil “in the wrong way”.

Witnesses are said to have seen how Amini was brutally beaten in a police car in the Iranian capital, Tehran. Three days later she died in the hospital.

The police have always denied the accusations and believe that she suffered a heart attack. Something to which Amini’s family claims the opposite, as she is supposed to have been healthy and had no health problems.
