The boy got stuck in the elevator on Wednesday, but during the rescue operation something went wrong and he fell down the elevator shaft – a five-story fall. The boy suffered life-threatening injuries and has been treated at Sahlgrenska Hospital.
On Sunday, the hospital’s press service confirms that the child has died.
– It is a terrible event and my thoughts are with the family, says Lars Klevensparr, head of the Greater Gothenburg rescue service to SVT Väst, which was the first to report on the death.
What went wrong when the emergency services tried to free the boy is not clear. The incident is being investigated by the police, but without any individual as a suspect. It has also been reported to the Swedish Work Environment Agency.
