JUST NOW: Chinese delegation stopped by Sweden

A Chinese delegation has been stopped from visiting Sweden.

The delegation with several Chinese government officials tried to book a study visit to Swedish rock rooms through a Swedish contact.

The visit was scheduled for next week. Among other things, the delegation planned to visit the underground rooms of the Royal Library.

But the delegation is stopped.

Several authorities have said no.

However, the plans were very far advanced. The visit has been stopped at the last moment, reports SR Ekot.

Several actors – refers to Säpo

Region Stockholm is one of several actors who said no to the Chinese delegation.

– It happened with an explicit reference to Säpo finding that China conducts intelligence activities in Sweden, SR states.

Wanted to visit internet provider

It is not only authorities that have stopped the Chinese study visits.

Internet provider Bahnhof has rejected a group from Hong Kong that wanted to visit the company’s security-classified data hall.

The company was contacted by a Swedish consultant in rock engineering who presented the group’s request.

After some follow-up questions, it turned out that the Chinese “group” was a 21-man delegation of government officials from a number of Hong Kong, that is, Chinese, departments. Including “Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (HKSAR)”, Bahnhof states in a press release.

The Chinese delegation also wanted to visit Stockholm’s subway system.

Contacted Säpo

Bahnhof has contacted the Security Police after refusing the Chinese request.

– That representatives of a totalitarian dictatorship want to inspect our data center is unusual. We of course declined the visit for security reasons, and with regard to the current situation in the world. We have also contacted the Security Police and assisted with the list of all 21 people in the delegation, writes the internet provider and adds:

– We have no doubt that the consultant is acting in good faith, but when it comes to China, you simply cannot be gullible. We therefore want to address all consultants, researchers, volunteers and association boards – it is good that you are involved! But don’t be naive.
