More violent crimes before the pandemic

A clear breaking point is the corona pandemic, which led to the cancellation of two last April celebrations.

Before the pandemic, the celebrations were more violent (19 reports in 2019), but after the country opened up they became calmer (6 reports in 2023) – an image shared by the police when it comes to alcohol consumption.

– Before the pandemic, there were well over 100 people who were taken into custody for intoxication, said Magnus Jansson Klarin, press spokesperson at the police, in an earlier interview with SVT.

– This year we expect half of that.
