Sweden is organizing upcoming double championships for P17 and P19 in January 2025. The decision has been taken by FIB, the international bandy federation.

It is now clear that Sweden will organize the WC for P17 and P19 in January 2025. The last time Sweden organized the WC for P17 and P19 was in 2023 in Gothenburg in Ruddalen’s ice hall. Both Swedish national teams won gold. 2023 was also the first time that the tournaments were merged into a double championship and the upcoming WC tournament will be conducted according to the same model.

– It is very gratifying to be able to present this news. Both in terms of the game and for the audience, the double championship in 2023 was a success. There were many high-quality matches in a compressed period of time, which provided a really nice experience for the players and for the spectators on site, says Pär Gustafsson, secretary general of the Swedish Bandy Federation.

– The fact that we arrange the U17 and U19 WC is also a natural consequence of Sweden and the Swedish Bandy Federation taking a clear leading position in international bandy. Next season we will organize five WC tournaments out of six, as the situation looks now, says Pär Gustafsson.

Venue and date

The WC will be played during the third weekend of January 2025. The venue for the championship has not yet been decided. An offer will go out to the bandy clubs, that they can come in with an application to become an organizing association.

The Swedish P19 national team is the reigning world champion after winning the WC in Oslo in January 2024. The P17 national team is world second after the WC 2024 which was played in Mikkeli, Finland.

From before, it is also clear that Sweden will organize the women’s and men’s WC in March 2025.
