Sandviken’s municipal director, i.e. the municipality’s most responsible official, writes in Arbetarbladet on April 12 that Sandviken’s population decline is not due to the recent shootings.
An analysis has been made of the population decline in the municipality of Sandviken. The big change according to the analysis is that the number of people moving into the municipality has decreased by almost 300 people. A large part of the reduction can be explained by the fact that fewer people with a foreign background choose to move to Sandviken municipality.
Furthermore, the municipal director writes “We cannot of course know why individuals chose to move from Sandviken municipality”. In the second breath comes the statement “However, my conclusion is that the assumption that the population decrease is due to people choosing to move from Sandviken as a result of the shootings is based on a feeling of those who put forward that assumption. The analyzes we made of the population statistics do not support the fact that emigration from Sandviken municipality has increased as a result of the shootings.”
As an official in a municipality, it is unusual to go out in public and take a position on a political issue. It is even more unusual for the municipality’s most responsible official to publicly draw his own conclusions in the media.
Where is the fact-based analysis that Sandviken municipality’s population decline cannot be at all, a little, partially or completely due to the recent shootings? The analysis says that there are almost 300 fewer people who have chosen to move to Sandviken municipality, largely due to the fact that fewer people with a foreign background have chosen to move here. Where is analysis on why? Does the municipal director mean that it cannot be because these people choose Sandviken municipality precisely because of the shootings?
