Popular series in SVT is closed – after 14 years

One of the more classic programs in SVT’s tableau is going to the grave.

After 14 seasons, Detective Vera Stanhope has solved her last murder case.

This is because the popular TV series “A case for Vera” is now closed.

– Working with Vera has been a joy from start to finish, says lead actor Brenda Blethyn, 78, in a statement according to the BBC.

“Will Miss Them”

– I’m sorry to say “cheerio”. But I’m so proud of our achievements over the last 14 years, adds Brenda Blethyn, hailing her fellow cast members and the entire team as “fantastic”.

– I will miss them, but I will not forget their immense talent, the camaraderie, the laughter or kindness we shared and our fans all over the world.

– From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Success in Sweden

“A Case of Vera”, or just “Vera” as the original title reads, is a British crime and drama series that began airing on British television in May 2011.

The series, which ranks 8.2 out of 10 on the rating site IMDB, is based on a novel and has also been a success on Swedish SVT, where the first 12 seasons are available on SVT Play.

– The charming but sarcastic detective Vera Stanhope solves murders together with her young assistant in Northumberland County, the series is described according to SVT.

The end of an era.

Kate Bartlett, one of the executives at Silverprint Pictures, which produces “Vera,” calls the announcement the end of an era.

– It has been an extraordinary journey, she tells the BBC.

– So many wonderful and talented people have been involved in the creation of Vera, but none of us would be here without two incredible women: first, the absolutely extraordinary talent of the inimitable Brenda Blethyn.

– She is brilliant as Vera Stanhope, a truly iconic character of our time. And – of course – the amazing Ann Cleeves, author of the original novels. We will all be very sad to say goodbye to Brenda and everyone involved with the series.

Brenda Blethyn has been nominated for an Oscar twice. Once for her role in the 1996 comedy drama Secrets & Lies and once for her role in the 1999 musical Little Voice.
