Later this year, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will showcase an all-electric variant of the Range Rover. Already now we get to see some first glimpses of the car in connection with it being on winter tests in Sweden.

During the tests in northern Sweden, JLR put the battery capacity and the drive unit with gearbox, electric motor and power electronics to a serious test under the extreme and cold conditions. The car has had to undergo temperatures down to -40°C. At the same time, it is tested in the hot deserts of the Middle East with temperatures above 50°C.

The tests here in Sweden ensure that Range Rover’s new Traction Control System provides outstanding performance on icy and slippery surfaces, JLR promises. The new system now takes advantage of the new possibilities that the electric drivetrain provides. Instead of a traditional traction system based on the ABS unit, the Range Rover Electric can use the direct power of the electric motors. It reduces the response time of each individual wheel from around 100 milliseconds to 1 millisecond.

– Range Rover Electric means personal luxury, refinement and drivability with quiet electric propulsion, for smooth and relaxing driving. We are well on our way with our physical testing and development program for extreme testing of the Range Rover Electric, which will provide customers with a fantastic electric car with outstanding performance and handling, said Thomas Mueller, President of Product Engineering at JLR.

Otherwise, JLR is not revealing much more about the Range Rover Electric at the moment. The unveiling will take place later this year.
