When interest rates started to rise in 2022, the housing market stopped. Buyers held on to their money and sellers hesitated in the hope that prices would turn back up.

Now, however, the brokers are beginning to see a turnaround. The number of objects on Hemnet is increasing and the number of sales has increased every month in Kronoberg and Kalmar for the past three months.

– A crisis does not change people’s willingness to move or sell, but you pause plans and hope that things will return to the way they were before. What is happening now is that both buyers and sellers are willing to make deals at lower prices, says Jonas Hellström, real estate agent at Länsförsäkringar Kronoberg.

Prices continue to fall

At the same time as sales have increased, the average price for housing has fallen. Jonas Hellström believes that prices will turn upwards again, but that it will be slow, and they will not return to the prices that were before autumn 2022.

– We have a new normal when it comes to interest rates and house prices today, and people are starting to accept that.
