When the application closed on Monday evening, April 15, 78,911 people had applied for an education at the University of Gothenburg. As before, the bachelor’s programs are among the most sought after.
The sociology program is one of the ten that ranks high on the list of popular programs to apply to. In addition, the program comes out on top in a comparison of first-choice applicants for the corresponding program at other universities in the country.
More applicants for the autumn semester 2024
As always, there is high application pressure for the sociology program. For the fall semester, a total of 4,039 people have applied to the program, an increase of almost 500 applicants compared to the previous fall semester.
Among the courses, Criminology, Psychology and Forensic Psychology are among GU’s top ten.

Four programs are at the Faculty of Social Sciences
Four of the ten most searched for programs are at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
At the Faculty of Social Sciences, there are the Sociology Program, the Psychology Program, the Human Resources Program and the Political Science Program.
They are also the most sought after among the corresponding programs in the country, according to a survey by the University and Higher Education Council (UHR).
