Now “Jerka” officially gets his square.
And all Solna residents are welcome at the party.
– It will only be love, says Jerry Williams’ daughter Jannica Fernström, who sings at the opening.
The proposal came in 2018, decisions were made last year, and now, when the avenue (hopefully – fight now, spring!) is in pink bloom, it is time for the inauguration.
The square at Huvudstagatan 7 will then officially become Jerry Williams square.
– It is really pretty. To have a place named after him, it is indescribably huge. I think the location is perfect, he lived nearby and liked the cherry trees very much, says Jannica Fernström, daughter of Jerry Williams.
She is an artist herself and will join in paying tribute to her father during the opening show.
– We will play three songs, but it is a secret which ones.

In addition to music, there will be speeches and then the sign will be unveiled. An open folk festival for everyone, is the idea. We need more of that, Jannica thinks.
– There has been a rather harsh climate in Solna for a couple of years, with shootings and explosions. I hope people come here and get to feel community, it will only be love, something nice for all of us Solnabor.
Performing her father’s hits is nerve-racking, admits Jannica Fernström. It was not obvious to say yes when the city called and asked if she wanted to participate last fall.
– It is difficult to give the music justice. He was so big and so good and lasted so long. But it will be fun, the band is fantastic, so just go with it.
Do you listen to his music a lot?
– Haha, no, actually not. I’ve obviously seen a lot of shows and have a lot of relationships with different songs. But they are not on my playlist.
Jerry Williams lived near the square that he now gets to name.

What? Opening party with speeches and music. Musicians from Jerry Williams’ band, his daughter, the artist Jannica Fernström and students from Solna cultural school perform. Sara Kukka-Salam (S) makes the opening speech and Sandra Lindström (V) concludes.
