Around ten fixed boats are permanently moored along the Fyrisån. These include houseboats and restaurant boats. But with the new harbor plan, these boats will go away. Instead, the idea is that there should be room for small boats, public boat traffic, a guest port, more piers and space for kayaks.

When SVT Uppsala talks to several boat owners with fixed boats in the harbour, they are upset about the proposal.

– It will be more dead, says Willy Palm, who has lived in a houseboat on Fyrisån for 20 years.

But the municipality defends the development plan.

– When you have the permanent residences and businesses, it becomes a bit like privatizing access to the water, says Rafael Waters (S), chairman of the Street and Community Environment Committee in Uppsala Municipality.
