At today’s regional council meeting in Norrbotten, the elected auditors harshly criticized the regional board’s way of handling the economy in 2023.

– We assess that the regional board has conducted the business in a way that is not financially satisfactory, said the chairman of the auditors Krister Hammarbergh (M).

The auditors also assess that the board has conducted the business in a way that is not entirely appropriate, a criticism that is also directed at the health and medical care board and the patient board in the region.

Despite the criticism, it was recommended that the board and all members of the committee be exempted from liability, something that the full council meeting also granted.

The auditors have also carried out an in-depth review in several areas, including governance and control of the region’s public health work. There it is judged that neither the regional board nor the health and medical care board fully ensured that the public health work is carried out in an appropriate manner and exercised a completely sufficient internal control within the area.

A lack of internal control was also found at both the health and medical care board and the regional board.

The auditors also criticized the region’s financial management.

– We can see that the planning and budget instructions that were out in the businesses have arrived late. They have been unclear and in many cases they have not really been known to the business. It also makes it difficult for the businesses to budget. Financial management will therefore not be sufficiently effective, said Krister Hammarbergh.
