So far, Jukka Jalonen’s last WC project looks promising. On Wednesday evening, Finland’s men’s hockey team won their third straight training match victory over Sweden – now a rematch awaits in the Czech Republic.

– A tight match where Sweden played really well. But we got a few opportunities and took advantage of them, sums up Jukka Jalonen in Discovery’s television interview.

And perhaps you don’t need to say more than that about the match between the Lions and Tre Kronor.

Just like on Tuesday, Finland was in the driver’s seat and above all made sure that Sweden did not get into dangerous situations at all.

Hannes Björninen – who was also on fire yesterday – scored 1-0. Markus Nurmi – who was rested yesterday – tricked his way past half of the blue-yellow defense and scored 2-0.

Winberg got the net

Tobias Winberg then had the honor of putting the final nail in the coffin, as he immediately after serving his expulsion in the last minutes of the game received the puck and put it into an empty net.

– It has been a fun year. It’s tough matches, but I’m just enjoying it, says Winberg, who made his national team debut earlier in the season.

– The fact that we beat Sweden three times in a row says something about the team’s morale and understanding of how we want to play hockey, analyzes Jalonen in turn in the TV interview and adds that the goalkeeping was of a high class.

It was Emil Larmi who guarded the cage in the match. Larmi was Finland’s number one in the WC last year.

– It’s been a few weeks since I last played, so I felt a bit rusty. But you play to be in the fire in the spring. This is just fun, he says.

Who stays in the squad?

The match on Wednesday night was Finland’s last training match before the Genrep – EHT tournament in the Czech Republic next week.

After that, the WC in the same country is next. Finland opens the tournament against the host nation on Friday, May 10.

For Sweden, a total renovation of the current squad awaits, as up to ten NHL Swedes are said to be current. For Finland, Jesse Puljujärvi joins the EHT tournament, while Mikael Granlund and Olli Määttä come directly to the WC premiere.

A few names will still be poked from the current camp squad shortly.

– It won’t be easy, says Jalonen.
