New figures show that there is a big difference in how the slip affects the municipal residents in the county.

There are big differences between the county’s municipalities when it comes to how many people slipped and injured themselves last winter. “Certain sidewalks are better suited for skating than walking,” says Pär Hommerberg (L), who requested the figures.
The past winter has offered changing weather and temperature, which has caused footpaths and cycle paths and roads around Stockholm to be covered with ice.
Now, for the first time, figures are available that compare what this led to in the county’s various municipalities in terms of fall injuries between October 1 and February 29. The differences are big.
The lowest is Upplands Bro, where 1.3 patients were reported with fall injuries per 1000 inhabitants, the highest is Norrtälje with 4.8 reported cases. The average for the county is 2.2.
High proportion of elderly
Norrtälje also has the highest percentage of residents over 65, which is seen as part of the explanation. “The elderly generally have a higher risk of falling and generally an increased risk of more severe injuries that require more care,” writes regional councilor Talla Alkurdi (S), in response to an interpellation from the Liberals.
It was the L-member Pär Hommerberg who wanted to know how the slip affected care costs and how the municipalities manage their responsibilities. “It happens that the sidewalks are better suited for skating than for walking,” he writes.
Talla Alkurdi replies that not all slip accidents happen on municipal land. In some municipalities, the percentage of people living in detached houses with their own land is higher, which makes it difficult to draw conclusions about the quality of public anti-slip control, she believes.
