The best way to take care of your garden waste is to recycle it. You can do this by, for example, composting yourself, leaving the waste at a recycling station or ordering collection of garden waste from Gästrike recyclers.
Within the municipality of Gävle, dry garden waste may be burned, but only in exceptional cases if it can be done without causing inconvenience, for example if smoke disturbs nearby residents or if the fire risks spreading.
If you are going to organize a public event and at the same time burn garden waste, for example a May bonfire on the eve of Valborg fair, you need to apply for a dispensation. You apply for an exemption by contacting us, preferably by e-mail [email protected] where you specify the type of event to be organised, place and time as well as invoicing information.
If you are going to burn a majkase on the eve of the Valborg fair, you should also report the casket to the Gästrike rescue service. In this way, you help the emergency services to keep track of where the fire is.
