In 2022, the state’s preparation and evaluation institute carried out an overview of the collected evidence regarding mammography examinations and screening. With it as a basis, the National Board of Health and Welfare published new recommendations in May 2023, where it was clearly stated that it was not recommended that the regions screen people over the age of 74.

The regional council decided on February 21, 2024 to resubmit the case in order to clarify and differentiate the factual basis relating to the case and that relating to Motion 16- 2023 on mammography for women over 74 years of age.

The regional council decides to revoke previous decisions regarding free mammography screening for women over 74 and to adopt the National Board of Health and Welfare’s recommendation regarding screening for breast cancer.
