RIGHT NOW: European heat moves in over Sweden – “becomes a heat record”

Now comes a long-awaited announcement for everyone who is tired of winter.

The cold snap in April seems to be coming to an end.

This is highlighted by SMHI in a recent forecast on Thursday.

Southern Sweden will get significantly warmer spring weather this weekend as warm air starts to move up from the south, comments Max Schildt, meteorologist at SMHI.

– Some day during the next week the temperature in Götaland can probably approach 20 degrees, in northern Norrland 5-10 degrees.

“Breaking records on Monday”

SMHI’s happy news is also supported by other forecasts, including from the weather institute Storm.

There they speak of a Spanish warmth and a low pressure from the Mediterranean moving towards Sweden.

According to the current forecast, it even looks like there will be a heat record for 2024 – over 21.1 degrees that was reached in Malmö on April 9.

– I think we will break that record already on Monday. It’s going to be the hottest day of the year so far, says Per Holmberg, meteorologist at Storm, to Expressen.

But it may rain

The heat is already creeping up tomorrow, Friday.

– In Götaland and western Svealand both Friday and Saturday mean some sun, emphasizes Max Schildt and refers to SMHI’s forecast.

He also flags that there may be local showers and some rain in the far south of Götaland.

That risk also exists when the heat moves in over Sweden next week.

– The warm air can also mean the passage of fronts with clouds and rain, states the meteorologist.

Meteorologist: may get colder again

However, there is a risk that the heat is only on a temporary visit.

At least if the forecast from SMHI competitor Klart is to be believed, which does share the image of temporary heat in the first week of May, but which believes that thereafter it will continue to be colder than normal.

With the exception of a brief visit of warm spring air during the first days of May, the month looks to continue to be dominated by low temperatures for the season, emphasizes Klart meteorologist Lasse Rydqvist in a comment and adds:

– The relatively dry long-term forecast also gives the impression that the month of May may offer more high-pressure weather, which also gives hope for a lot of sun.
