When Malmö and Scania host major championships, the focus is on the work to create sustainable positive effects for the residents of Malmö and Scania. The work for social sustainability ahead of the Indoor Bandy World Cup, on December 7-15 this year, has already reached more than 8,600 children at 67 schools in Skåne.

In December this year, the floorball WC for men will be decided in Malmö. Until then, Skåne’s Indoor Bandy Association, with the support of the city of Malmö and Visit Skåne, is carrying out the Lilla WC initiative. The initiative gives schoolchildren in grades 1-3 the opportunity to try floorball in the physical education lesson, and since September last year more than 8,600 children in grades 1-3 have tried the folk sport of floorball. The goal is to have reached at least 20,000 children when the WC in December is played.

The purpose of Lilla VM is to, through inclusion, increase commitment and interest in movement, inspire more young people to have a meaningful leisure time and to strengthen local association life through collaboration with schools and associations around Scania.

In this phase, the effort involves school visits with follow-up try-on opportunities in collaboration with associations in Scania. The school visits are designed in an inclusive way where everyone should feel that they can participate. The focus is on the joy of movement and activity, the exercises are designed so that many people can be active at the same time regardless of level. In connection with the visits, the schools’ physical education teachers gain knowledge about the sport and suggestions for games and exercises that they can use at school.

The goal is to visit between 110-140 schools and meet between 18,000-22,000 children in Skåne during the build-up to the Floorball WC in December. All participating schools will also be invited to attend a WC match in December.

The school project is only part of the work for social sustainability. In addition, more social initiatives will be planned that will reach the public in 2024. Financial and environmental sustainability will also be an important part of the work towards sustainability certification of the event via GreenTime.
