Downtown · On the first of May, several demonstration trains pass through central Gothenburg and traffic is affected between approximately 12:00 and 18:00. Public transport has changed driving routes.

On the first of May, Labor Movement Day is celebrated with demonstrations and demonstration marches through central Gothenburg, something that usually attracts a lot of people to the city.

The demonstration trains start from the area around Järntorget and continue towards Gustaf Adolfs Torg, Kungstorget, Bältesspännarparken and Götaplatsen.

Traffic in the center is affected between approximately 12:00 and 18:00.

Changed driving routes for public transport

Both bus and tram traffic will have changed driving routes during the day and some stops will be withdrawn. Therefore, the journey may take longer than usual. Those who are going to take public transport are advised to keep an eye on changes in the Västtrafik To Go app.

Avoid driving in the city center

Vehicular traffic is closed along the demonstration roads. Remember, if you’ve parked inside these roads, you won’t get out until the demonstrations are over. Make sure to be out in good time and avoid driving in the center if you don’t have to. This particularly applies to the areas around Linnégatan, Järntorget, Kungsportsavenyn, Kungstorget and Gustaf Adolfs torg. On the map below you can see alternative routes.

Pedestrians and cyclists are affected

Pedestrian and bicycle traffic is also affected as parts of the demonstration trains run along pedestrian and bicycle paths. You may therefore have to choose other routes or wait.

Note that you may not obstruct or break a demonstration train, which means you must stop and wait until the demonstration train has passed.
