The elderly residence has its own hairdressing salon in the basement and today three women have taken their seats in the chairs to be looked after by the students.

In addition to Felicia, student Amira Al Salem is present in the salon. Amira begins by washing the hair of one woman while Felicia Staaf begins to style the hair of another.

Both Amira and Felicia are in their final year of the Handicrafts program specializing in hairdressing. They have done their internship and both work extra at the salon. Amira has already secured a job after graduation.

What is the best thing about the training?
– That you get to be creative, that we get to try different things, says Amira.

What will you do in 5 years?
– Then I started to start my own business. I want to start something that has everything. Hair salon for both men and women, all ages and nationalities. There must also be a facial treatment and the opportunity to fix nails.

In the salon is also the teacher Teodora Kurt, who is responsible for the collaboration with the nursing home. Teodora worked in the hairdressing industry for almost 20 years before she started as a teacher at Odengymnasiet.

She supervises the students and, when necessary, shows them how to work.

– We started the collaboration with Borgerskapet’s care and care home after Christmas and it works very well. Now students in year 2 and 3 are here every three or four weeks, says Teodora Kurt who, together with three other teachers, teaches the total of 45 hairdressing students at the school.
