– Today’s pre-school students are tomorrow’s employees. Giving the young people a good prao experience is a step in securing the supply of skills in the future, says the municipality’s HR manager Marie Englund.

One of the pre-school students is Matteus Olsson from year eight at Kastellskolan who did his pre-school in community administration, both in the environmental department and the planning and construction department.

– It was good to be in several departments. I got to do many different things and it was both interesting and fun.

For example, he attended meetings about future construction projects and accompanied when the environmental department visited some grocery stores.

– The funnest part was a meeting with the business unit which was about a new establishment that might be in the works. It was exciting.

The municipality’s community administration has taken the prao period very seriously and is trying to set up as broad and good a program as possible.

– It’s fun to be able to show what breadth we have and how many fun professions there are to choose from. It is also good to be able to give an insight into the democratic aspect, how a municipality is governed and our mission to give the residents the service they are entitled to, says Hanna Krämmer, prao coordinator at the community administration.

Matteus Olsson did not know much about the municipality before praon.

– But now I’ve realized that the municipality does a lot of things that you don’t think about.

Whether he will work in a municipality in the future is far too early to say.

– But I know now that there are many jobs here that are both needed and that you seem to be able to enjoy.

Five benefits of receiving a prao:

  1. Opportunity to market your particular workplace and industry.
  2. Today’s students are the employees of the future. Prao is part of securing the supply of skills in the future.
  3. Prao can provide a ready-to-start summer worker.
  4. You can get young people’s perspective on your business and get new ideas.
  5. The young get a bigger picture of the labor market than just their parents’ jobs.

All students in grades 8 and 9 must do a total of ten days of prao. In the autumn, it is time for new prao periods and all employers are welcome to contribute places.
