The police authority has decided on camera surveillance of parts of Uppsala during Walborg. The camera surveillance will take place with the help of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) with cameras, in these areas.

The surveillance, which complements an already earlier decision about camera surveillance of the central oaks of Uppsala, will take place when it is deemed necessary in connection with the celebration of the Walpurgis Fair in Uppsala.

The purpose of the surveillance is to prevent, prevent and detect criminal activity as well as to detect disturbances to public order and security.

In the decided surveillance area, the police have also called for a so-called restricted area, which means that there will be a flight ban for other craft during the current decision period.

The decision applies from Tuesday 30 April at 08.00 to Wednesday 1 May at 05.00.

Camera surveillance with drones

  • Drones, also known as UAS or unmanned aerial systems, are police systems for unmanned aerial vehicles.
  • The police authority has the right for a certain period of time to conduct camera surveillance of a place to which the public has access, if for a special reason there is a risk of serious crime and the purpose of the surveillance is to prevent, prevent or detect such criminal activity or to investigate or prosecute such crimes.
  • The police also have the right to use film material in investigative and prosecution work. The material may be used as evidence in a trial, which can be decisive if, for example, there are no witnesses.
