In its application, Grit Academy writes that the need for these professions has increased and that the gaming industry in the Malmö region will need to employ up to 674 people in the next few years.

– Grit Academy has exaggerated the need for employment three times over, because there are three educations, and the number of internships. It’s a situation that Grit Academy has taken advantage of to get these trainings in a way that doesn’t feel very serious, says Johanna Nylander, head of analysis at the Computer Games industry.

16 out of 25 companies have dropped out

Grit Academy states that 25 Swedish game companies are behind the application with the promise of participation and internships, but now the industry organization Dataspelsbranschen has sent in a letter to the Norwegian University of Applied Sciences, where it is written that Grit Academy deliberately and systematically led several companies behind the scenes. 16 of the 25 companies have dropped out of the collaboration.

– We are worried about the students who see all the ads about Grit Games and think that this is the next big education and that this is something that the game industry is behind when it actually doesn’t seem to be, says Johanna Nylander.

Grit Academy’s CEO Eric Badeur writes to SVT Nyheter Skåne that he is self-critical of how the communication with the companies has gone and that Grit Academy will review its routines. He says that the company aims to maintain high quality in all training.

46 million granted

In total, Grit Academy has been granted 46 million kroner for the computer game courses and for training to become a professional barber. It is the Authority for the University of Applied Sciences that granted the grants.
