The gold frauds have been reported in several cities in Småland, Blekinge, Skåne and Västra Götaland. In the West police region alone, there are 75 reports, reports Hallands Nyheter.
According to the police, most of the cases concern people who have been defrauded of gold and jewellery. HN writes about a case where fraudsters visited, among other things, a hotel and stated that they wanted to buy gold, silver and old coins against direct payment. When they were about to pay, the fraudsters claimed that Swish was not working and that payment would be made later. But then no payment ever came.
According to Hallans Nyheter, two men were responsible for the fraud. And now the police have reportedly arrested one of the suspected fraudsters.

He was arrested at the end of the week, police said.
– The cases we have seen are people handing in their gold savings that they have at home. We don’t know the highest and lowest value, but it’s jewelry and thousands of dollars, says Anton Molin, acting group leader at the police’s fraud section in the West region, to HN.
The investigation is now in an “intensive stage”. Among other things, the police work to investigate similarities between different fraud reports.
The unit in region West also cooperates with corresponding sections in other regions.
According to Anton Molin, it is likely that more reports of gold fraud may be added to the investigation.
– The attention in the media means that maybe more will come in, he tells HN.
