Concert promoter and booking agency Northern Trail announced this afternoon that they have been declared bankrupt, which means that this summer’s planned festival Sthlm Americana and its sister event Malmö Americana and Oslo Americana canceled.

What will happen with other upcoming gigs and tours under the Northern Trail banner is currently unclear.

On the company’s Facebook page, founder Mikael Nilsson Bäck writes that “2022 was a terrible year, when basically no gigs even went around, which left NT in a vulnerable position. In addition, the sales figures for the festivals this summer look more than legitimately weak, which means that we will not survive and the equation is impossible.”

Mikael Nilsson Bäck emphasizes that he was still hopeful for 2023. “It was so crazy fun to get started again in 2022, but unfortunately not enough people were prepared to buy tickets for the concerts we organized.”

Both Malmö and Sthlm Americana would have been held June 9-10 with artists such as Calexico, Midlake and Bonny Light Horseman.

In the end, Northern Trail still seems to have expected to be able to carry out the festivals, and according to the plan, tomorrow they would have presented a final “really magical booking” to the program.

“The love of the music has always been the reason, but I can’t risk my whole future when the rules of the game are what they are. It will be several years before I will see a band live again, maybe never will be able to – because I take this personally.”
