In the Chinese simulations, 24 hypersonic anti-ship robots were used to sink the USS Gerald R. Ford in 20 battles. This is apparent from a report by Chinese military planners that the South China Morning Post has seen.
The hypersonic weapons would be “a disaster” for the 300 meter long and 80 meter high warship, which is the largest in the world.
Battles after multiple warnings
In the simulations, fighting broke out after “several warnings” from the Chinese side. The US ships were reportedly first attacked after they approached an island annexed by China in the South China Sea. However, it is not clear which island is meant.
In addition to the USS Gerald R. Ford, other US warships were also sunk in the scenarios. It will be about some of the top models in the US fleet, according to SCMP.
SCMP has not been able to confirm whether the information in the report is correct. But a Chinese military source says they appear to be reliable.
“The accuracy of the data used in wargame simulations is critical to their usefulness when calculating potential scenarios,” the source said.
Located at the harbor in Oslo
The USS Gerald R. Ford has previously been described as unsinkable. It is the largest, most modern and most high-tech that the US Navy has.
Since Wednesday, the ship has been in port in Oslo. The visit has been described as a clear mark against Russia and President Vladimir Putin. During the time in Norway, the warship will, among other things, participate in exercises along the northern coast.
– We are happy that they have come here to our waters to practice so that we can cooperate in the event of a serious situation, Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arlid Gram told SVT Nyheter on Wednesday.
