It is the publication ChargerLab that comes out with the information that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will support the new Qi2 wireless charging standard.
Qi2 is not the same as Magsafe but is based on Apple’s Magsafe standard. According to ChargerLab, this means that Qi2 chargers will likely be able to charge iPhone 15 models at up to 15W, while current Magsafes are limited to 7.5W. Furthermore, since Qi2 chargers do not need to use Apple’s Magsafe module and do not need to be certified according Apple’s “Made for iPhone”, it could result in iPhone 15 users not only getting access to faster wireless charging but also cheaper chargers.
Somewhere around the turn of the year 2022/23, the first chargers certified for the new standard for wireless charging Qi2 are expected to hit the market.
