Kevin Domaoan Olsson, 29, is convicted of hundreds of sex crimes against children

It was during 2018 and 2019 that the police received reports from three Swedish girls and one American girl, who were subjected to threats and coercion on the internet.

All four had been exposed to roughly the same thing. A man had made them send scantily clad pictures of themselves and, with the help of threats, forced them to take several pictures in sexual poses.

During the fall of 2019, the police were able to identify the suspected perpetrator: The then 26-year-old Kevin Domaoan Olsson from Malmö.

In a major operation, the police raided Kevin Domaoan Olsson’s home. His computer, mobile phones and other technical equipment were seized. On December 6 of the same year, he was arrested on suspicion of several serious sexual crimes against children.

When the police investigators went through the material, self-produced child abuse material was found.

Using internet platforms such as Discord, Omegle, Snapchat and Skype, he had filmed his own screen in real time while making children undress or perform sexual acts on themselves.

Among other things, he asked a girl under the age of ten to bring up various objects in her abdomen. At the same time, Kevin Domaoan Olsson gave the girl degrading instructions.

Another time, Kevin Domaoan Olsson made a ten-year-old girl perform sexual acts with her four-year-old little brother.

A girl from the United States, who was 12 years old when she had contact with Kevin Domaoan Olsson, tells the police that she joined Discord because she was not feeling well and felt alone.

– I just wanted friends, so when he sent me a text message, where he wrote something like: “Do you want to have a video call?”, I said “yes”. Then he said “I have your parents’ contact details”.

The girl was not allowed on Discord and was worried that her parents would find out. Kevin Domaoan Olsson threatened to expose her if she didn’t undress in front of the camera.

– He forced me to show him everything … so I did and then he said like: “Send more or I will tell your mother and father and I will tell the government and everything”, says the girl in questioning.

Bragged about child pornography

The total amount of abuse material is roughly 140 hours. A total of 120 different people appear in the films. The children who could be identified are from Sweden, the USA, Argentina, Australia, Germany, Estonia, Scotland, England, Ireland, Denmark and Belgium.

Another girl from the United States, a 17-year-old, says in questioning that Kevin Domaoan Olsson told her during a video call that he had child pornography on his computer.

– This was something that he bragged about, that it was a great achievement that he had a lot of nude pictures, that he had been collecting these since he was 15 years old and that the pictures depicted people under the age of 18, she says.

Just went out to fish or shop

Kevin Domaoan Olsson is described by people close to him as very computer literate. He is also described as a calm person, but also as introverted and jealous. He lived a large part of his life in front of the screen at home in his apartment in eastern Malmö.

Kevin Domaoan Olsson says in questioning that he planned to start studying to be a doctor before he was arrested in the fall of 2019. He studied remotely in order to gain sufficient qualifications for further studies.

He describes his life as quite isolated. That he only went out to fish or shop. Sometimes together with the parents.

– Otherwise I sit at home and learn things, play, on the computer, he says in questioning.

Kevin Domaoan Olsson describes himself in questioning as “straight edge”.

– This means that you don’t drink alcohol and take drugs. You preserve your brain cells and keep to being normal. You don’t use things that are not natural, you are born without all these things, he says.

Difficult to identify the foreign children

Police and prosecutors had long had great problems in determining the identity of the foreign children in Kevin Domaoan Olsson’s films.

– The Swedish victims have been easier to find because we have passport registers and more. Swedish police abroad do not have that option, prosecutor Adrien Combier-Hogg has previously said.

Therefore, Kevin Domaoan Olsson was first charged with a total of 125 crimes against nine plaintiffs in Sweden. At the end of 2021, he was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison by the Court of Appeal.

Just one month later, he was charged again, then for more than 210 crimes against 42 people outside Sweden. They were almost all children, of which 25 have been identified. Last week he was sentenced to another 2.5 years in prison.

In total, he has thus been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

Denies crime

Kevin Domaoan Olsson denied during the trial that he was guilty of a crime. His version was that he practiced mutual sexual role-play with the victims and that he did not understand that they were young.

– From my side, I have not believed that I have done anything illegal, he claims in questioning.

The district court dismisses it completely. Among other things, several of the girls have stated their real ages, and in several of the cases their young age is “completely obvious from the recordings”, writes the district court.

He further claims in questioning that what is on the films is not about anything sexual for him.

– Sometimes I can role play for the control, it was just something I did … the control has been about telling someone and getting that person to do what you say.

That it would not be about anything sexual is also dismissed in the latest judgment against Kevin Domaoan Olsson.

“Given, among other things, the distinct sexual orientation of the recordings, the fact that Kevin Olsson is seen masturbating during several of them, as well as the names of some of the folders or files in which the recordings were saved, it appears to be impossible that the purpose of his actions would not have been about essentially sexual satisfaction”, the judgment reads.

“Most people are relieved”

Kevin Domaoan Olsson and his lawyer will most likely appeal the verdict.

– We have basically decided on that. At least for the penalty, says lawyer Ulf Frisell.

Sophie Lif is the plaintiff’s attorney for several of the girls that Kevin Domaoan Olsson exploited. She thinks his sentence is too low.

– Taking into account the number of acts, modus operandi, the systematicity and recklessness shown by Kevin Domaoan Olsson, I believe that the penalty should have been set at a longer prison sentence.

When the district court arrived at Kevin Domaoan Olsson’s sentence, the so-called quantity discount was used. The second part of the indictment thus led to a significantly lower sentence compared to the first, despite the fact that it included more plaintiffs and more serious crimes.

Prosecutor Adrien Combier-Hogg thinks that the quantity discount should not be used in cases like this.

– These are very serious sexual crimes, deeply offensive and serious attacks against defenseless children, where the perpetrator shows great recklessness. Then the legislature should probably regulate this matter differently. In such serious cases, it should be possible to issue the most severe punishments we have, even life imprisonment, says the prosecutor.

Plaintiff’s counsel Sophie Lif says that the long investigation period has been a mentally stressful process for many of the plaintiffs.

– Most are relieved that they have fallen and now hope that they can put this process behind them, so they can continue to process what they went through and are still going through.
