It stretches kilometers long, the port of Gothenburg. It is considered the largest container port in the Nordics and is a world of its own.
And it continues to grow. The plans also include dredging the depth from today’s 13.5 meters to 17.5 meters.
That president Alexander Stubb and wife Suzanne Innes-Stubb chooses to visit Gothenburg during the second day of his state visit to Sweden is very much about the port. The presidential couple want to familiarize themselves with infrastructure that has strategically important importance both civilly and militarily. If the worst were to happen, and the war was a fact, the port of Gothenburg could take on a decisive importance.
