A post by Weibo user “Phone Chip Expert” has been picked up by Macrumors. According to it, Apple has plans to design its own AI server processor. The user, who claims to have 25 years of experience in the integrated circuit industry, including working on Intel’s Pentium processors, believes that this processor will be manufactured using TSMC’s ‌3nm‌ process.

Apple’s alleged move to develop a specialized AI server processor reflects their ongoing strategy to vertically integrate their supply chain. By designing its own server chips, Apple can tailor hardware specifically to its software needs, which can lead to more powerful and better technology.

Apple could use its own AI processors to improve the performance of its data centers and future AI tools that rely on the cloud. Apple is rumored to prioritize on-device processing for many of its upcoming AI tools, some operations will take place in the cloud.

Weibo user “Phone Chip Expert” has previously been right. He said the iPhone 7 would be waterproof and that the standard iPhone 14 models would continue to use the A15 Bionic, while the more advanced A16 chip was exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro models.
