The last time Eurovision was organized in Malmö, in 2013, Moriskan held the festivities for the fans who traveled there. Now they drop out because of the risk that the entire People’s Park could be closed if the security situation requires it, which would mean a big financial break.
– Our assessment is that we can risk our future if we carry out the arrangement, says Moriskan’s CEO Ozan Sunar to Sydsvenskan.
Several defections after pressure
Now it will instead be the Admiral on the other side of Folkets park who will take over. The Euro Fan Café is merged with the Admiral’s own planned event, Euroglam, which is held in conjunction with the television broadcasts.
Emelie Löfmark, CEO at Amiralen, needed to think for a couple of days before she said yes.
– We needed to think through whether the organization could handle it in practical terms, but also of course how it will work in terms of security, says Emelie Löfmark.
Several artists, organizers and organizations have recently dropped out of the various arrangements during Eurovision week, partly because they want to protest against Israel’s participation, partly because of threats or pressure.
The tenant association drops out
So far, the Admiral has been relatively spared from threats and pressure, but Emelie Löfmark is aware that it may increase.
– It’s one of the things I thought about before we said yes. It is sad if there is pressure, but I hope you can see that we want to do something good.
The latest dropout is the Tenants’ Association, which according to the newspaper Hem och Hyra is dropping out because of the safety of the demonstrations planned in connection with Eurovision.
– Of course what is happening in the world right now is extremely tragic and serious, but I think it is okay to think that thought and at the same time throw a party in Malmö, says Emelie Löfmark.
