The appeals court in New York believes that the judge in the metoo movement’s biggest legal case made the wrong decision when Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to prison for rape in 2020.

Among other things, the higher instance believes that it was wrong to let women who were not parties to the case make accusations.

The court has now decided that a new trial will be held, AP writes.

Remains imprisoned

Harvey Weinstein, former film producer and owner of the company Miramax, which produced, among other things, “Pulp fiction” and “Shakespeare in love”, is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence for rape and sexual coercion.

He will remain incarcerated because he is also sentenced to 16 years in prison by a California court for rape.

Claims he is innocent

Several women accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct, some of them published in articles in the New York Times and The New Yorker, which became the starting point for the metoo movement in 2017.

Harvey Weinstein has consistently maintained that he is innocent and that all sexual encounters were consensual.
