Verdict in cases of, among other things alleged attempted murder of policemen

On April 26, 2024, the Östersund district court sentences two men, a 24-year-old resident of Skåne, and a 19-year-old resident of the Stockholm region, for various forms of participation in crime during or in connection with a joint escape from the police on August 12, 2023 in Östersund .

The 19-year-old is sentenced for aggravated threats against an official, aggravated sabotage against blue light sabotage, aggravated weapons offenses and illegal threats to prison for six years.

The 24-year-old is sentenced for aiding and abetting a serious threat to an official, serious sabotage against blue light operations, serious weapons offences, illegal threats and burglary to four years in prison.

Both men will remain in custody.

The district court has found that the investigation in the case was not sufficient for it to be considered beyond reasonable doubt that the 19-year-old, who fired several shots with a submachine gun in connection with fleeing by car from the police, directed the shots at subsequent four policemen in two police cars . Thus, according to the district court, the two accused men cannot be considered to have acted with intent to kill the subsequent police officers, which is why they are not convicted of attempted murder. Through their actions in connection with the escape, however, the two men have been guilty of gross threats against officials and aiding and abetting such crimes. For the same incident, they are also jointly and in agreement guilty of gross sabotage against blue light operations and will be sentenced for this in criminal competition. Furthermore, they jointly and in agreement possessed the used submachine gun with the associated magazine and ammunition without having the right to it. Because the weapon was of a particularly dangerous nature, was kept in a car in a public place and came to criminal use, the act has been assessed as serious weapons offences.

The two convicted men must jointly and severally pay SEK 60,000 in damages regarding violation to each of the four policemen for the serious threat to the official they were subjected to.

For an incident that occurred earlier the same day, the district court also convicts the two men of unlawful threats against a person, from whom they wanted information about another person.

The district court has also found that the 24-year-old was guilty of burglary when, after finishing the car chase, he entered a holiday home and resorted to, among other things, clothes that he thought he needed when he got wet and cold after many hours in the forest, while he was wanted among other by helicopter.
