Newcastle is making a comeback this year – after over 20 years – in the Champions League group stage. On Tuesday, Alexander Isak and his teammates face Milan away in Italy, and even before the match the English club has come into focus.

The English newspaper Daily Mirror reports that Newcastle broke Uefa regulations on Monday evening, when club representatives did not appear at the team’s press conference in Milan. When the press conference was due to get underway, the Newcastle squad were still on a plane, which was two hours and 20 minutes late, as some flights (including Newcastle’s) to Milan were unable to land on time due to torrential rain and thunderstorms.

Newcastle had, according to the newspaper, notified Uefa that the team would not train at the San Siro on Monday night, but the club had not communicated that there would be a late arrival. According to the Daily Mirror, Uefa can now issue a warning, alternatively fine Newcastle for the breach of the rules regarding the missed press conference the day before the match.

Newcastle’s group also includes Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
