Football: Strange pictures: The coach runs onto the pitch – gets a red card and hugs the referee

The ball appeared to be out but the referee hadn’t had time to blow the whistle yet – then the Swedish Stabaek coach Janne Jönsson ran onto the field to take the ball. Jönsson also ran into an opposing player and was shown the red card.

The strange scenes did not end there. The Swede hugged the fourth referee.

– I think it’s a behavior we don’t need to have on the football field, says fourth referee Marit Skurdal.

“I have not tackled a Vålerenga player”

Jönsson believes that he wanted to get the game started quickly and that the hug was because he wanted to apologize.

– It was overtime and I tried to get hold of the ball to make a quick throw-in. The ball was clearly out and I went a meter out onto the field to get it. I wanted to get the game going. It was overtime and Vålerenga kicked the ball away so that time ran out,” he tells NRK and continues:

– I have not tackled a Vålerenga player and a Vålerenga player has not tackled me. I went a meter outside of where I was supposed to be, to get the game going again.

The match ended 3-2 to Vålerenga.
