The Chicago Bears have grand visions for the future.

By 2028, the NFL club wants to have a new luxury arena in place.

– I look forward to the positive impact it will have on our beloved city, says the city’s mayor Brandon Johnson.

It was hardly a coincidence that the day before the NFL draft, in which they have the first pick, the Chicago Bears made a big announcement.

The storied club, which has played its games at Soldier Field since 1971, announced its intention to build a new luxury arena just south of its current home.

At a press conference, the president said that they want to build an arena by the lake with a fixed roof and a large campus with green areas outside. The arena is also designed for large concerts and events and should be able to give the city the chance to host the Super Bowl.

The bill: 35 billion

The new building will have room for around 65,000 spectators and one short side will be adorned with a giant glass window, to contribute to the outdoor feel, with a view towards the city centre.

The stadium project will cost SEK 35 billion and the Bears’ owners will contribute approximately SEK 21 billion to this. In addition, the club will apply for a loan of 300 million dollars, about 3.2 billion kroner, from the NFL as part of an investment plan.

“This marks a pivotal time for Chicago as we introduce a visionary project that prioritizes the public good. I look forward to the positive impact it will have on our beloved city,” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement.

The goal is for the first sod to be broken in the summer of 2025 and for it to be ready in 2028.
