The rumors surrounding Josef Alami’s suspension have attracted a lot of attention in sports Sweden in recent days.

On April 21, it became known that the Swedish Taekwondo Union (STU) suspended the 21-year-old after he criticized the taekwondo association in an interview in SVT.

Several tours

However, Swedish taekwondo is divided into two federations, the Swedish Taekwondo Federation (STF) and STU.

After the case was noticed in the media, the STF concluded that STU did not have the right to suspend Alami, whereupon the suspension was lifted on 24 April.

STU, which among other things accused Alami of theft and refusal to pose next to the Swedish flag, is however adamant that Alami will not be selected for the national team.

– It became crazy about the wording itself, so a suspension is not relevant, but it is about not being selected for the national team, STU’s chairman Fresia Perez has previously told SVT Sport.

On April 26, Alami filed a report against STU and its president Fresia Perez for false accusations.

“Smear and slander”

“By spreading such serious allegations publicly without sufficient evidence, STU has undermined not only my reputation and career, but also confidence in the integrity and fairness of sport,” writes Alami, continuing:

“The suspension has been lifted, but the damage has already been done. I have had to take consequences that I am not worthy of and miss out on my dream, an EC to which I dedicated a lot of time. This is lying, defamation, discrimination and slander.”

STU is awaiting the process

In an SMS to SVT Sport, STU’s president Fresia Perez writes:

“I cannot comment on the individual case. As I can see it has been sent to the disciplinary committee and we will have to wait until the process is complete.”

Alami concludes his letter by requesting a quick investigation by STU and that Fresia Perez and other officials within STU be temporarily suspended to ensure an impartial and fair process.
