Mariestad Bois in collaboration with Hemtrevligt in Skaraborg and the joy of presenting the 21-year-old forward Kevin Engvall as the next player in the Boistruppen. Kevin was extremely close to playing for Kristianstad last season, and there he was a strong contributor with his incredible speed and agility. Kevin, brother of NHL pro Pierre Engvall, has an incredible turn in his skating and may very well be the very fastest player in the league.

Welcome to Bois Kevin!

– Thank you very much!

Can you tell us about your career so far?

– I’m from Ljungby from the beginning, played all my youth in Troja from when I was little until I was 14, then I moved to Ängelholm and went to the hockey gym there. Since then I’ve been around a bit. I was loaned to Kristianstad, then I played in Mora before moving back home to Troja. Since last season, I finished it in Kristianstad and we were very close to promotion. But things go up and down in hockey.

How did you come to be traded from Troy in the middle of the season?

– Troja and I didn’t really have the same idea of what kind of player I was, there was no grudge in the air, but we still agreed to break the agreement and then I went to Kristianstad to alletta with 12 games left. They saw me as a different player and it went well both in terms of points and in terms of games.

Kristianstad was already good before, but they still got a real lift since you and Christian Lindberg joined there a bit into the alletta…

– Yes, as you say, it was a boost for the team, it was fun. Then when the playoffs started I got a little less ice time, they probably wanted to play those who were there from the beginning, but I’m still very happy with my time in Kristianstad.

How did it come to be Mariestad now, because I assume there were many tenders to decide on?

– I had a dialogue last week and they know my qualities as a hockey player and the whole sports group believes in me, they know what I am capable of as a player, so it felt right. It was a good gut feeling when I spoke with Mariestad and I think I can take my next step in development there.

What do you think you can get out of your time in Mariestad?

– I want to help the team with the offensive above all, with a lot of speed and breath and to show more of myself as a player. Trying to get as far as possible with Mariestad, they’ve made it all the way for many years now and it feels like it’s a good team with something good going on.

If we then go to your strengths as a player, you’ve touched on it a little bit, but is speed and shooting your biggest strengths?

– Yes, it’s my speed and my shot that characterize me the most, but then I’ve got a physical game as well, which has helped me recently.

If I were to describe you as a difficult player to face, both with and without the puck, would you agree?

– Yes, that’s right. I’ve had the explosiveness since I was little, then I’ll try to find a bit better timing for next season and I’ll use my speed even more.

What do you know about Mariestad?

– The only thing I’ve heard is that it’s a hockey town with a loyal audience. Hockey is the biggest thing in Mariestad, otherwise I haven’t heard much, but it will be fun to come to a new place. Fun with a new series, I’ve always played in the south all seasons, so it will be fun to try the west with.

What does summer and summer training look like for you?

– I run the summer training in Halmstad with my brother, we are usually on the ice and I run all the training with my brother Pierre (plays in the New York Islanders), it will be both physical and ice and grind on many small details. He helps me a lot and points out what I need to improve on, you can get very good advice and tips from him.

What are your ambitions?

– It is to go up with Mariestad next season, then I don’t usually look too far ahead. I think it takes away the happiness a little to look too far ahead, I want to be here and now and you’ll see when the year is over what you get.

And you join the team at the same time as the others on 1/8?

– Yes it is true.

What are you most looking forward to now?

– To meet everyone in the team and all the new faces and get into the group as well as possible and prepare for the season.

An example of Kevin Engvall’s speed….

The sports group about Kevin:
“Kevin has a huge range in his riding, something unique in fact. He has a good nose for scoring, and we believe he will make great strides in his development with us. Kevin is a strong player who is not afraid to play physical hockey, and we in the sports group are very pleased with the recruitment.”
