Hammarby IF HF won the first quarter-final against the reigning cup champions IK Sävehof with 40–34.

When the teams met again on Monday evening in Partille, the Stockholmers had no major concerns about maintaining the lead from the first meeting.

– We were quite clinical going forward and Hayder (Al-Khafadji) saved everything in the first ten minutes. When we went up to a four-goal lead already after five minutes, I think Sävehof’s neck tendon went, comments Hammarby’s team captain Gustav Davidsson, who scored four goals in the match.

Hammarby led 17–13 at the break and could calmly guard the lead in the second half.

In the last attack of the match, “Bajen” even managed to take the lead. The stalwart Johan Nilsson set the final score at 29–30 with just a few seconds left to play.

– Just today, we shouldn’t make too big of a difference in the performance because they had three starting players away. But the performance in Eriksdalshallen in the first meeting was damn good, continues Davidsson.

Monday’s result means that the four semi-final teams on the men’s side are crowned. Ystads IF HF defeated IF Hallby in double matches: Alingsås HK and IFK Kristianstad did the same with HK Malmö and IFK Skövde respectively.

– There are three really tough teams, says Davidsson, who concludes:

– But we take the cup very seriously. It wouldn’t have been wrong with a cup gold.

The draw for the men’s semifinals will be presented on Thursday at 1 p.m. on Handbollplay.se.

The semi-finals are played in December. The first round starts on December 17. The return matches are played five days later on December 22.
