Stories on Youtube are about to disappear. YouTube has decided to shut down the ability to upload such posts starting June 26, but story posts published shortly before the deadline will be available for another seven days.
Stories, i.e. shorter videos and images that are only available for a short period, were implemented on Youtube in 2017. This as a consequence of similar functionality becoming popular on other social media, but on Youtube only channels with over 10,000 followers could share these short-lived posts.
The feature was never a success on the video service. The creators who were able to post story posts did so relatively rarely and posts never got any time in the spotlight in the same way as other material on YouTube.
Instead of putting powder on the Story function, Youtube will focus more on Shorts videos, i.e. shorter videos that viewers can quickly scroll through, as well as the Community part of channels.
